FAQ
Why Should I Use a Doula if My Parter/family/friends are present?
While loved ones can be incredible at supporting you, they are typically not trained in current evidence based information and familiar with difficult situations that may arise in labor and delivery. I am committed to continuing education and am trained to react calmly and professionally in any situation that arises.
Doula Empowered encourages clients to have whomever they wish in attendance at their birth, and will work with them collectively, to support you in having the best birthing experience possible.
Won’t the nurses and my doctor/midwife support me during my labor?
Your nurse and care provider are focused on keeping you and your baby safe, while your doula focused on your educational and emotional needs, as well as your comfort. Your provider and nurse have other patients and responsibilities to attend to, but your doulas sole purpose is to support you.
What are your interactions with medical staff like?
A doulas role is not to advocate for you in birth, but rather to help you and your partner feel empowered during your experience so that you may, if necessary, advocate for yourselves.
Your doula can suggest options or questions you might talk over with your primary care provider or nurse. If a suggested procedure or course of treatment is unclear, your doula will encourage you to get the information you need to make an informed choice.
Whatever decisions you make, know that your doula will support them 100%.
Why a Doula?
The birth of your children are experiences you will never forget. These miracles deserve the nurturing, attentive care of a trained expert, so that remembering your birth story will bring you a feeling of contentment and pride for the rest of your life.

It has been proven that pregnant couples who choose a Doula for their labor and birth reported higher birth satisfaction despite how long or complicated the labor. A doula helps you take control of your birth so that you can have the best birth experience as you define it. A doula does not take the lead but is instead the close confidant for the birthing couple to rely on for information and support.

Numerous scientific trials have compared birth outcomes of women who had doulas and women who did not. The women who chose a Doula benefited from these medical outcomes:
25% shorter length of labor
28% less likely to have a cesarean section
31% less likely to use oxytocin to speed up labor
34% less likely to rate their childbirth experience negatively
There are also many additional positive outcomes such as less difficulty breastfeeding, increased health of baby, less post-partum depression and so much more. Mothers who have had the continuous support of a caring doula generally perceive their early journey in motherhood as easier and more enjoyable.

"Going to Tiffany for personal training was the best decision I made for myself while pregnant. Her expertise in pre and post natal health and wellness was apparent from our first meeting. After a session one morning, I remember I told my coworker, " I wish she could be my doula!" Little did I know she was working on her certification at the time. She strengthened not only my body but my mind, gave me tools and breathing exercising to use during labor, and set me up for success after birth. I could not recommend her more! I know she will be an incredible doula."

Tiffany has been my personal trainer since shortly before I became pregnant. The intent was that she would help me stay fit during pregnancy in order to ease labor and delivery and speed up recovery post partum. During my time training with her, Tiffany let me know that she was training to become a doula, and I was immediately interested in engaging her for that service as well.
As my trainer, I developed immense trust in Tiffany and felt that she was able to effectively push me and encourage me to dig deep to harness my own strength. This seemed to be a great quality to have for someone helping me to give birth for the first time! Knowing that Tiffany also has four of her own kiddos increased my trust in her even further since she clearly has experience in childbirth, as well as preparation for and recovery from natural delivery.
My labor came on relatively quickly and Tiffany met us at the hospital as soon as we asked her to. From the minute she entered the delivery room, she jumped into action helping my wife and I get settled and coaching me through contractions. Because of how quickly things progressed, I was in labor for a while without an epidural, but Tiffany had prepared me well during our time training together to know how to ride the waves of contractions using breathing and relaxation techniques. Even though I was in pain, I was able to manage naturally for as long as I needed to, while feeling calm and confident with Tiffany's guidance.
Once we got to the active stage of labor, Tiffany was as hands on as I asked her to be, helping with acupressure to both ease pain and encourage more productive contractions. Her bedside manner is very calm and reassuring, and she helped my wife and I remain at ease the entire time. Once I had my epidural, she helped me figure out positions that would be comfortable, again drawing on what she knew I was capable of from our time training together, and that would best encourage labor. Due to the knowledge she provided in our prenatal doula sessions as well as during training, I was also able to really advocate for myself with the nurses and ask to make changes as needed which was extremely helpful!
After our daughter was born, there were some complications and she had to be taken immediately to the NICU. Tiffany stayed with me while my wife went with our daughter and she made sure I was ok both physically and mentally, offering words of comfort and encouragement which I really needed in that moment. She stayed with me until I was settled in my recovery room and my wife was back by my side, which was so appreciated and truly helped to ease my fears during those hours when I would have otherwise been alone and very scared about our daughter. Tiffany checked in multiple times over the following days to make sure my wife and I and our daughter were doing ok and I have no doubt that she truly cared about our wellbeing.
I am so incredibly grateful that I had Tiffany as a part of my pregnancy and labor/delivery team. I am 4 weeks post partum now and have had a very easy recovery due to all of the work that we did training together. I am able to care for my daughter with strength and confidence knowing that I won't injure myself, and can easily get off the floor or a chair with no hands (very important for baby care; thanks sandbag "babies"!) Tiffany even offered advice on easy recovery methods I could use to begin re-engaging my pelvic floor and abs to get a jump start on preparing to work out again once I am cleared. I can't wait to get back into the gym with her for even more recovery work! If you're considering working with Tiffany, do it. I cannot recommend her enough and would work with her again in a heartbeat :)
Thank you!!!
